KUALA LUMPUR: LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd, a local education services provider, won the Asia HRD award for “Contribution to the Organisation” at a gala held at the Shangri-La Hotel recently.
Guest-of-honour Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin presented the award.
Established in 2010 as a wholly-owned company of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, LeapEd was recognised for its work as the design and implementation partner of the Yayasan AMIR Trust Schools Programme.
Through this programme, it works with the Education Ministry to develop the professional capacity of more than 1,500 teachers and school leaders in 30 schools.
“We are deeply honoured by this affirmation of the important work LeapEd is involved in with Yayasan AMIR and the Ministry of Education,” said LeapEd CEO and managing director John D. Chacko.
“However, I must emphasise that the teachers are the heroes of this programme. It is due to their passion and dedication that we’ve made outstanding progress in enriching the learning experience for more than 21,000 Yayasan AMIR Trust School students today.”
Chacko said LeapEd’s education team strives to ensure that transformation is sustainable by training a local talent pool of education transformation experts.
LeapEd general manager of human resource and administration Jun Maria Tan Abdullah said: “In the process of improving schools, we are integrating the knowledge, skills and experience of our international education experts with that of senior Malaysian educationists. This combined expertise will equip our team with global best practices that have been adapted for the Malaysian context.”
The Yayasan AMIR Trust Schools Programme is a public-private partnership (PPP) conceptualised in collaboration with the Education Ministry as a long-term commitment to improve accessibility to quality education in public schools.
LeapEd was engaged by the foundation to develop programmes for the continuous development of teachers, and to provide the education advisers who will deliver and implement these programmes in the schools.
“Students are at the core of LeapEd’s efforts,” said Chacko.
“Everything we do is about helping schools and communities to make learning more interesting, so that students can enjoy high-quality, 21st century education.”
The Asia HRD Awards is an independent initiative created to celebrate excellence in human capital development.
Since its launch in 2003, this annual event has honoured 147 recipients from 16 countries in the region.
